What is CNC Machining?

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Controlled machining, which simply means a machine that performs manufacturing processes via a computer, rather than manual operation. The computer on the machine dictates the direction of the tools to machine parts and components. CNC machinery is often used for machining highly accurate parts and components for industries that requite a high degree of precision often within microns.

CNC Machining Types and Processes

At Headland the term CNC Machining is used to describe a division within the company which provides specialised machine tools to General Engineering, Aerospace, Railway and Heavy Engineering sectors.

These machines include Machining Centres; these can be vertical or horizontal, Lathes; vertical or horizontal, we also offer specialised railway lathes.

Additionally the Lagun milling machines are commonly used within the aerospace, machinery and equipment manufacturing and automotive.

The range of EDM (electrical discharge machines) from Makino are highly accurate machines used within the medical and aerospace industries.

And lastly the range of cylindrical grinding from STUDER, these machines are used to shape the outside of an object. The object requires a central axis of rotation with these machines often grinding shapes such as cylinders or crankshafts.
