TRUMPF has equipped the TruLaser 5000 series with a massive 24 kilowatts of laser power, providing a productivity boost of as much as 80 percent. Components from a sheet thickness of up to 50 millimetres can be easily cut.
This year’s EuroBLECH saw the introduction of TRUMPF’s updated TruLaser 5000 series, which features a laser with two times the power of the previous model. With an output of 24 kW, the new laser – a TruDisk 24001 – can process sheet-metal parts up to three times more quickly. Subject to the material and the application, the upgraded TruLaser 5000 can handle up to 80 percent more sheets of metal per hour. “Increased laser power means companies can slash processing times while also improving the quality of processed parts. With its patented cutting unit, automated functions and dynamic performance, this technology significantly boosts productivity,” says product manager Patrick Schüle. With double the laser power, the new machine can cut parts significantly faster. Additionally, the more potent TruLaser 5000 can use nitrogen as the cutting gas to cut mild steel with a sheet thickness of up to 20 millimetres. This eliminates the need for reworking that arises when oxygen is used.
Enhanced quality
With a 12 kW laser, sheet-metal processors are able to cut sheets of mild steel to a maximum thickness of 15 millimetres when nitrogen is used as a cutting gas. It is necessary to add oxygen in order to cut thicker parts. This results in the formation of an oxide layer on the part’s cut edges. These must then be removed, either by machine or by hand, a laborious and time-consuming process. Companies can also use a plasma machine to cut thick parts. This, however, is much slower and less precise than a laser-cutting machine. By contrast, the 24 kW machine can handle sheet thicknesses of up to 20 millimetres while using nitrogen. As a result, there is little need for reworking, and productivity rises. Simultaneously, increased laser power improves cut part quality, particularly for medium and high sheet thicknesses.
Ideal for processes using medium and high sheet thicknesses
The additional power from the 24 kW laser now included in the TruLaser 5000 series will benefit all businesses looking to boost productivity and component quality. It will enable the efficient production of parts with medium or high sheet thicknesses from a variety of materials. TRUMPF introduced the TruLaser 5000 series, which includes a 24 kW laser, at this year’s EuroBLECH.
