LAGUN’s machine solution for fabricating intricate and complex rail parts

Tags:

The machining of large parts presents unique challenges that demand the utilisation of specialised equipment. When dealing with oversized parts, the need for swift transportation between tools or locations arises. Furthermore, the weight and size of these parts often exceed the capabilities of a single individual, needing the use of specific machinery, particularly in the rail industry. Moreover, these parts may surpass the work zones of CNC machines. To address these challenges, Metalform sought the technology expertise of Headland Technology. Through our collaboration, we determined that a LAGUN BM3 machine would be the ideal solution, possessing the necessary capabilities to effectively handle the tasks at hand.

About Metalform: Metalform is a well-established company in the manufacturing industry that specialises in machining and fabrication. With over 15 years of experience, Metalform has become an industry leader known for its commitment to client satisfaction. It also delivers high-quality products using Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machines.

The company serves various industries such as mining, building, rail, and power generation, primarily in the Hunter Valley region and beyond. In addition to adhering to strict quality standards, Metalform’s skilled tradespeople ensure top-notch performance.

One of Metalform’s standout features is its advanced manufacturing system, which includes real-time tracking of items throughout the production process. This system guarantees on-time delivery and material traceability, providing customers with peace of mind and a quality end product.

We interviewed Susie Li, Production Assistant at Metalform, and asked what challenges they faced: She replied:

“Our primary goal was to expand our CNC machining capabilities to handle larger and more complex projects especially those in the rail industry. This included the ability to perform multifaceted and angled machining, as well as long and large machining tasks. Unfortunately, our current setup was inadequate for these requirements. It is crucial for us to remain technologically up to date, showcasing a proactive and strategic approach to enhancing our capabilities and maintaining competitiveness within the manufacturing industry.”

We went on to question how Metalform’s projects succeed using the LAGUN BM 3.

“The LAGUN technology’s capability to perform multifaceted machining with a single setup has caught our attention. This feature simplifies the manufacturing process by eliminating the need for multiple setups. As a result, intricate and complex parts can be created efficiently, saving time and reducing the risk of errors.”

We asked Susie how the new machine evolved Metalform’s production.

The LAGUN BM 3 machine has significantly improved our production process. With its enhanced rigidity and accuracy, we have experienced a streamlined workflow and better-quality part outcomes. The machine’s precision has allowed us to meet tighter tolerances, which consequently results in higher customer satisfaction.”

Were there any additional benefits Metalform experienced using their new LAGUN BM3? Susie responded:

“One notable benefit is the facilitation of easier programming. Additionally, users have reported a clean and enclosed work area as a valuable outcome. This feature contributes to a focused and organised working environment, minimising distractions and enhancing productivity.”

Susie added that the LAGUN BM 3 machine precision is another bonus and a significant advantage they observed. This precision has enabled them to meet tighter tolerances, which in turn has led to higher levels of customer satisfaction. The ability to achieve such precision is crucial in the industries Metalform serve, where even a small deviation can have significant consequences.

We also wanted to know why Metalform chose Headland. Susie answered:

“We selected Headland as our technology provider due to their extensive experience and professionalism in the industry. Their reputation for delivering high-quality solutions aligned well with our needs. Notably, the trust we placed in Headland was strong enough to make them our choice for acquiring our first machine.”

In summary, Metalform’s decision to seek advice from Headland Technology and our subsequent recommendation of the Lagun BM 3 CNC machine played a pivotal role in helping Metalform overcome challenges, enhance capabilities, and achieve its goals of handling larger machining jobs and performing multifaceted and angled machining. This collaboration proves the power of industry partnerships and strategic investments in driving growth and success.
