Challenge: Enhancing production efficiency for offshore towers

CS Wind PT, a key player in wind tower manufacturing, needed to expand its production capabilities to meet the growing demand for high-quality offshore towers. Having successfully installed a Faccin rolling line in 2020, the company sought a second fully automated CNC rolling line to optimise production, streamline processes, and maintain its competitive edge.

With expectations exceeded by the first installation, CS Wind PT required a solution that would further increase capacity and enhance production planning. Their goal was ambitious: to triple output while ensuring seamless integration with existing operations. A reliable partner with proven technological expertise was essential to achieving these objectives.

Solution: Fully automated CNC rolling technology

Recognising the success of the initial Faccin rolling line, CS Wind PT reaffirmed its trust in Faccin’s advanced rolling solutions. The decision to install a second fully automatic CNC-controlled plate rolling line was driven by the need for higher efficiency and precision in producing large-diameter offshore wind tower components.

Faccin’s cutting-edge Wind Tower Automation System was selected to meet CS Wind PT’s stringent requirements. This solution seamlessly integrates with the rolling machine, enabling fully automatic handling of thick sheets and extra-large diameters. The new system ensures:

  • Increased production capacity
  • Enhanced efficiency in material handling and workflow
  • Optimised cycle times for rolling cans and cones
  • Improved automation to minimise manual intervention
  • Implementation: Seamless integration and operational success

The collaboration between Faccin and CS Wind PT ensured a smooth transition from planning to execution. With an established working relationship and a deep understanding of production needs, the decision-making process was streamlined, leading to swift and effective implementation.

Despite a demanding timeline, the new rolling system was delivered, installed, and commissioned without delays. Faccin’s engineers provided comprehensive on-site training for CS Wind PT operators and maintenance teams, ensuring maximum performance and operational efficiency from day one.

CS Wind PT’s management team highlighted the value of this partnership:

“Our orders were booming, and we saw few options to optimise our production system. We were confident that, thanks to Faccin’s experience, the partnership would be synonymous with success.”

Results: A long-term commitment to innovation

The successful integration of the second rolling line reinforces CS Wind PT’s strategic vision for expansion. With exponential growth projected at approximately 50% annually, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on new opportunities in the wind energy sector.

Faccin Group expressed pride in this continued partnership:

“Four years ago, we successfully delivered our first supply to CS Wind PT in Portugal. It is an immense honour to have been commissioned for a second unit, fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology for automatic rolling. In the highly competitive wind market, we understand our customers’ need to optimise cycle time and maximise productivity. CS Wind PT’s decision to invest again reaffirms trust in our technology and reliability.”

Looking ahead: Future developments and collaboration

CS Wind PT is already looking toward future enhancements and confirmed:

“We achieved our goals and plan to continue working with Faccin to develop production plants for towers with larger diameters and heavier structures.”

Faccin Group also acknowledged the role of its Portuguese partner, NDC-Nicolau da Costa Engenharia, whose unwavering support contributed to the project’s success. Their expertise and professionalism ensured smooth coordination from initial planning to final acceptance testing.
