Enhancing manufacturing efficiency with Nakamura-Tome’s integrated gear machining processes

Tags:

Gears play a crucial role in transmitting power in machinery. To machine gear parts with precision, dedicated machines like hobbing machines are used. These machines are widely used in industries ranging from industrial and mining equipment to aerospace.

However, factory managers and workers often face challenges with multiple operations and setups required to produce a single product over multiple dedicated machines. A multitasking machine solves this problem by performing turning, milling, and gear cutting in a single process, enabling complete production from blank to finished product on a single machine. This integration reduces setup changes and improves production efficiency. Additionally, the machining quality remains on par with that achieved by dedicated gear-cutting machines. Optimising gear manufacturing: Unveiling the distinct advantages of hobbing and skiving techniques

Hobbing and skiving are two gear-cutting techniques, each offering unique advantages. Hobbing proves ideal for producing high-volume external gears, while skiving is employed for manufacturing parts across various volume ranges. Skiving is particularly effective for both outer and inner gears, especially when machining closer to the gear end walls.

Hobbing, skiving, and other cutting techniques empower multitasking machines to manufacture a diverse range of gears, including Spur Gears and Helical Gears.

Easy gear programming with Nakamura-Tome “Smart Support”

Nakamura-Tome’s software, “Smart Support,” streamlines the generation of their specialised machining programs using a conversational programming interface.

Significantly, the latest software update introduced a new gear hobbing function. Users can now easily craft dedicated programs by entering variables and following simple guidelines. To enhance ease of use, the software integrates graphical images.

Additionally, the software includes a hob shift function akin to the one present in dedicated hobbing machines. This functionality enables users to alter the contact face of the hob cutter, leading to a substantial extension of the tool’s lifespan.

Furthermore, Nakamura-Tome has releaseda new video showcasing JX-250 and the gear machining capabilities. We encourage you to take a moment to watch it, as it provides a clearer understanding of the software’s capabilities in action.

Finally, this specialised software incorporates additional processes that empower users to develop normally complicated programs swiftly and effortlessly.

*The hobbing cycle will be included in the Smart Support package upon ordering the hobbing option.
