Case Study: Jim Livingstone Fabrications

Established in 2002, Jim Livingstone Fabrications is a family owned business, known for reliability and completing projects correctly the first time. Mainly working in the steel and mining industry, Jim Livingstone Fabrications has developed a reputation for their fantastic customer retention rates for referral jobs.

An efficient production line is the most important thing you can give your business. Recently, Jim Livingstone Fabrications purchased a beam line from Ocean Machinery to achieve that. When Headland sat down with Jim Livingstone himself, it was clear company size was irrelevant – and the Ocean proved to be a successful business move.

“It’s all about processing the steel at an efficient rate so you can be competitive and actually make money on the project. A man can only do so much,” says Jim.

Now with state of the art machinery, Jim Livingstone Fabrications is armed with the equipment they need to retain a competitive edge. Already, they have been able to meet tight deadlines as the company’s job portfolio continues to grow.

“We have seen our efficiency grow by up to 50 per cent for drilling holes, but balustrading has really grown by up to 70 per cent, which has been a large time saver for us. Companies work with us, as we are reliable, stick to schedule and meet their deadlines. Deadlines are critical in this business.”

Recently, Jim Livingstone Fabrications were asked to construct a MI-HI Bridge, with 22 metre long sections, four metres thick and 2.5 metres tall across a creek. This presented obvious difficulties for machinery transport, totalling two months to complete.

However, having the correct equipment to start off with has improved efficiencies, and the Ocean managed to have the project delivered on time.

“At the moment, the machinery is a press brake guillotine, bandsaw, cold saw, mag drill, punch and shear, oxy fuel cutting and welders.

“The Ocean machine has helped us provide the full spectrum of services for any structural fabrication job by the deadline,” says Livingstone.

Ocean machines have changed the way fabricators process structural steel sections, producing the fastest selling beam line in the world. Headland is the proud representative of the Ocean Machinery range in Australia. For more information on our Ocean Machinery range, click here.
