reensborough based precision machining company; Lovitt Technologies announced today they would be the latest beneficiaries of the Victorian State Government’s maximum $250,000 grant, as part of the third round of Investing in Manufacturing Technology Grants program.
Present at the announcement at LTA in Greensborough were; The Honorable David Hodgett MP, Victorian State Government Minister for Ports, Major Projects and Manufacturing, Jan Kronberg MLC, Victorian State Government Member for Eastern Metropolitan Region, Mr Michael Ramsay, Mr Bruce Ramsay, Mr Marcus Ramsay from LTA and Mr Kieran McNamara, General Manager CNC Division, Headland Machinery.
Announcing the purchase of the all-new Makino T1 5-axis Machining Centre, Headland were part of the process from start to finish, working closely with Lovitt and the Victorian State Government.
“When we started the machine buying process, there were years of research involved. It was widely believed that going ahead with the Makino T1 would be a real game changer; this type of machine in our employees hands would be hard to beat from an overseas competition point of view,” Manufacturing Director Bruce Ramsay said at a special event held at their factory.
“We wanted the best technology, and Makino is a large investment, so that’s where the Victorian Government and IMT came in. With the grant, we had the opportunity to remain competitive and maintain an even greater competitive advantage. We know for a fact this will be a sound investment for the future of our manufacturing.
“The Makino T1 will help Lovitt continue their work in the aerospace industry. Lovitt’s stringent testing and high safety standards ensure their parts are shipped straight into the planes the parts are made for. Every part has to be perfect, clean and ready to be installed as soon as it’s unpacked,” he also said.
The Hon David Hodgett officially announced the facilitation of the Grant to Lovitt Technologies.
“LTA, which manufactures aerospace components for commercial and defence applications, has been awarded an IMT grant of $250,000 to install a new machining centre, which will boost exports by $1 million, increase productivity and reduce cycle times,” Mr Hodgett said.
LTA has been and will be working very closely with Headland and Makino to develop the most efficient and economical strategies to process titanium and aluminum aerospace components through Makino’s ‘Material Science Laboratory’ (MSL).
Located at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan, Lovitt employees will be participating in technology transfer training courses at MSL, followed by a specialist aerospace engineers course from Makino’s MSL specialists, who will then work at LTA after the Makino T1 is installed.
As part of the IMT program, this third round will create 65 new employment positions and transition 101 other jobs into higher role positions.
With nearly 300,000 people employed, 25 businesses and contributing $27 billion per year, manufacturing is and will continue to be a very important contributor to the Victorian economy.
“Victoria is the hub of Australia’s manufacturing industry, but to meet the challenge of the high Australian dollar and competitive International markets, manufacturers must look to increase investment in new technologies to remain competitive,” Mr Hodgett said.
